Abstract

The larger infrastructure, data centers, server rooms and storage are occupying more area in any organization. The organizations wants to reduce these problems and then cloud computing emerged as a solution. Cloud computing provides all these hardware infrastructure, server rooms, data centers, storage, networking unit and much more virtually. Every of these services will be accessed with the help of the single desktop application. Cloud computing thus offering both the hardware and the software services to the users. Cloud migration has been the hot topic in the recent years as the services are much satisfying and reducing costs in terms of management and maintenance. Also it will be costing very higher for medium and large enterprises for purchasing data centers, servers and other networking devices. With the help of cloud services these issues could be easily tackled. Cloud services are developing day to day in order to enhance and innovate new services. Computing services like hardware and software could be virtually accessed with the help of the cloud computing. There are several types of cloud computing services and they are discussed in this report by studying some of top cloud service providers and their services.

Introduction

Cloud computing has multiplied its role and the involvement in different types of sectors. In the current and the past decade, most of the companies are migrated to the cloud based services. The reason behind the cloud computing based migration is that to reduce the usage of infrastructure and hardware in the organization. The use of hardware, servers, networking equipment, storage devices and much more could be reduced once if the organization moves to cloud services. In addition to that cloud provides various services like application development, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Machine learning, etc. There are different types of cloud services and models in the market and the best and the suitable one should be selected for migration. The models are Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). As the name denotes, each of these services will be offering various services to the users. They are again categorized into private, public and the hybrid cloud. Thus, each of these models and services offered by the various cloud service providers should be studied and compared to identify the best out it. It will also be helpful in understanding the services that are offered by these services. The following report will thus be helpful in studying and understanding about the cloud services providers and their comparison.

Identification of cloud service providers

Due to the digital transformation of the businesses, every information technology applications has been developing. Cloud computing has seen enormous development in the recent years and business have been migrating to cloud in large numbers. For migrating to the cloud services, the organizations may choose any of the model from Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). These services are provided by more number of cloud service providers in the market and the right out of them should be selected. In order to identify the right could service provider, the comparison between them will be helpful. The following section will discuss in detail about the four top cloud service providers. Out of them the best one is selected to compare with the IBM cloud to understand various features of them.

Amazon Web Services

Amazon Web Services or the AWS is the leader in providing the public cloud services. It also became the major service provider in database, Artificial Intelligence, machine learning and the serverless deployments. Apart from the cloud computing and the cloud storage, it has expanded to various integrate with the above said technologies. It is the world leader in the cloud computing providing all cloud models with greater than 200 integrated services to the users (Larry Dignan, 2021). The 33% of the entire cloud market is shared by AWS with 77 availability zones and about 24 geographic regions. The size of the AWS platform is massive and has been breaking out its own figures in sales and services. There are several cloud service providers who had emerged in the recent times and had become the competitor for the AWS. With the help of VMware, AWS offers the virtualization technology to build virtual network in the organizations.

Microsoft Azure

Microsoft is the number 2 and has been the most experience and services offers to its customers worldwide. Azure is the head to head competitor to the AWS. But Azure has various advantages over AWS in terms of customers especially the already availing customers in Windows OS and other Microsoft applications. They has been providing services to medium to large sized enterprises. They are providing data center facilities and expensive public cloud to improve their strong hybrid cloud. It is also stronger in the SaaS namely office 365. In terms of PaaS, Azure integrates with the public cloud to provide better services. Azure has developed AI and automation in order serve its customers in an effective way. Its production platform Azure Machine Learning is providing customized algorithms with unique solutions. Azure offers hundreds of services to its customers with improved security and compliance certifications in order to protect the privacy of the customer data.   

Google Cloud Platform

Google Cloud Platform is in the third rank with AWS and Azure in the front. With the deep technical strength in the search market, google has robust IaaS, SaaS and PaaS services to its customers. Since it has greatest strength in network and automation, it provides great services to its customers in terms of AI and the automation of the services. The data analytics based on machine learning and deep learning is also offered through the cloud service platforms. It is in the top of the stack in terms of applications and deployments of integrated cloud services (Mahesh Chand, 2021). Google Cloud Platform has been moving towards the multi-cloud services it is expected to offer more services to its users in the near future. It is mostly providing services for the financial and the retail customers around the world. The sales strategy that is used by Google Cloud has been improving as they are pioneer in selling services and products to the people.

Oracle Cloud

Oracle cloud platform is the latest and last one to develop cloud based services of these all four. It is offering the IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and DaaS services to the customers. The services that Oracle is offering is in the infrastructure, database and platform in addition with the SaaS. It is covering the services to small, medium and the large enterprises. Oracle is working heavily in order to provide improve its strength among the customer base. Despite of the late start, Oracle has been playing aggressively to attain the credibility in the market. Though the organization is based on software based services, it has been now planning to improve in the field of IaaS and PaaS offering to the customer base it has. It is providing the second generation cloud with capabilities of improving the performance and optimized workloads (James Maguire, 2021). In some areas, Oracle cloud outperforms the AWS and is having the maximized performance.

Selecting a cloud service provider

Out of the four cloud service providers, the one that has been selected for the comparison with the IBM cloud is Microsoft Azure. Based on the several reasons that are mentioned below, Microsoft Azure has been selected to compare with the IBM cloud. The following below are some of the reason for selecting Microsoft Azure.

Managing the Apps & Sever in the Context of allocating & upgrading the resources

Manage the resources of the application and server, especially through allocation of resources among the other relevant programs. In this case, it typically includes the resources like the devices of input/output, network connectivity, file storage, central processing unit and the computer memory. The tasks based on the management involves the usage of scheduling resources to overcome the interference and conflicts between the programs. With the help of the memory management, it allocates and de-allocates the memory space in the applications and the servers. Through this system, it keeps track the memory space and it also how much of the memory space has been utilized and by whom the memory spaces were occupied (Prasad, 2019). Privacy has been offered through the server by the means of a password so in which the un-authorized apps cannot access the data or programs. For instances, the servers could utilize the authentication of Keberos to overcome the un-authorized accesses to the data. The memory and the input/output space can be increased dynamically through offering the additional servers for storage as required.

Step by Step Process needed to Create & Deploy “Hello World” Apps

IBM cloud

Step 1: First log on to the IBM cloud

Navigate the DevOps to the dash-board of IBM.

 

In this case, the dashboard of DevOps has been opened as shown below.

Choose the option as create the toolchain.

The create toolchain window gets appeared as shown in the below screen. In this case, choose the develop the cloud foundry app from the list of available toolchain options.

On the page of a tool-chain, type the name for a toolchain based on your convenience.

 

For the Git issue and Repos tracking integration tool, choose the type of a repository as new and type the name for the new repo.

Select the option as create. This could open up the page known as over-view of toolchain’s.

Step 2: Creation of a simpler web-page

On the over-view page of toolchain, select the eclipse orion web IDE. The IDE of web has been opened. The fewer files such as .cfignore and the .gifignore were created automatically.

In the IDE of web, choose file à new à file.

 

The desired file has been highlighted so in which the user can name it and type as index.html.

In the right side of the editor area, paste the code.

 

Step 3: Creation of Manifest

In the IDE of web, choose the option as file à new à file. The specific file has been highlighted so in which the user can name it and type the name as manifest.yml. In the area of editor on the right side, paste the corresponding code.

Step 4: Deploy and open the specific application

In the IDE of a web, select the button as deploy. Right click on the launch and then choose the option as edit.

Modify the configuration of launch to utilize the name as uniquely for the apps and hosts. .

When the apps has been developed, open it in the browser through choosing the button as “Open URL apps”.

 

 

 

Microsoft Azure

In this portal of Microsoft azure, chose the type of the apps as web application.

Choose the template as HTML5 empty site.

Edit the code in the mode of online.

Clone the git from the desired URL.

Save the desired code under the file name of index.html.

Opinion based on the comparison & contrast of cloud providers

Choosing the better service provider

Both the Azure and AWS is more of the business decisions to move to the cloud oriented environment. How-ever, the reality in which it is not a technical based decision. Both the Azure & AWS were the performers of solid with the equivalence of almost 99 percentage of use cases. Selecting the AWS and Azure is more of the business decisions and that depends upon the organization requirements or needs. For instances, while the companies are in need of the strong provider of PaaS or requires the integration of windows, Azure would be more preferable option when the enterprise is seeking for the IaaS or some diverse set of a techniques then the approach of AWS might be a better solution (Rösch, 2016). More recently, the other parameter for making the decision is that how much the built-in tool of analytics was available on these platforms. Such kind of tools could help more in releasing the analytical project at the faster rate. In this case, it suggests to adopt the cloud service provider to be AWS. Because, it includes the flexible pricing and that can be more useful for the organization to adopt it. AWS includes the market place of software with an eco-system of extensive partner with the Linux and Windows. In the provider of AWS, security has been offered by the user-friendly roles with the permission of exceptional control. This could also offer the excellent implementation for the security groups and granular IAM.

One improvement area to see for the proposed services

While, it must never be a single or most major factor, there is no denying in which the cost could play a major role in deciding which the provider of cloud service has to choose. It is helpful to look at both the price of a sticker and the associated costs. Support is the other major area in which it needs to be considered for the improvements. In some situations, support can get by the service of chat or the call center (Attaran, 2018). The level of service is the other major area in which it needs to be considered while the business includes a strict requirement in terms of the support, response time, availability and the capacity. The agreement of cloud service are the major elements in which it needs to be considered while selecting the provider. It is major to establish the contractual relation-ship between the provider of a cloud service and the cloud service consumer. In this case, it includes some abilities to trust the provider of cloud to do a right thing and requires a legal agreement in which it could back-up while some-thing goes wrong.

Conclusion

From this report, it discusses about the providers of cloud services. In the first section of the report, it identifies and discusses the four different providers of cloud services who provides IaaS and PaaS for the medium to a larger enterprise. From the identified service provider, choose one service provider and compare it with the IBM cloud IaaS and PaaS services. In the second part of the report, it compares and contrast with the IBM IaaS and PaaS cloud. Under this section, it discusses the navigation and quality of IaaS and PaaS system, level of complexity for the deployment operation of cloud environment, describes some process that how it is easier to maintain the server and apps in the context of space, memory and so on. In this case, it also discusses the step by step operation in which it is required to create and develop the application of hello world or the instance of IaaS. Finally, in this report, it discusses some of the opinions based on the comparison and contrast of the cloud providers. Through this, the organization can adopt one of the better service providers.
