Guide students to adapt and adjust their learning strategies

Guide trainers/assessors to adapt and adjust teaching to accommodate students’ learning needs

Discussion in small groups- have you experienced discrimination? What action did you take?

In the discussion, most of the people have pointed out the discrimination that have faced by them. Some have discussed about the racial discrimination that they were dark in colour. Some were faced issues due to the nationality and the religious challenges. I have discussed my issues in the languages that are faced during my college days. Most of the people said that they have not reported the issue and just shared with the friends. But some people have boldly reported the issue to the respective person for the discrimination.

I would like to create a portal that would be helpful in reporting the discrimination that they have faced in their workplace or any other location. The portal should be educating about their rights and the way they could protect from the discrimination. It should also be helpful for overcoming the stress and the other mental health.

Question 7:

Task 7: Role play

In a small groups make your own list of the differences between your own workplace culture and Australia’s. What do you think will be the biggest challenges for you in ‘fitting in’?

In the discussion between the three members, the first one have discussed about the differences in the language between the India and Australia. He added that the language is difficult to understand and communicate with the people. The other had addressed about the ethnicity and the dress that is between Singapore and Australia. The dress and the ethnic culture were entirely different and will be difficult to adapt. Finally, I spoke about the gender differences in India and Australia. In Australia, people find easy to talk and mingle with the opposite gender, but could not be found in India. Thus, cultural differences has been effectively understood here in this discussion among the group members.

The biggest challenge that has been identified here will be the language and the communication. Most of the people will be finding it difficult it will be causing discrimination between the people and the organization employees. For fitting with the new language and communicating fluently, it will be highly difficult.

Assessment task 5 – Appendix 1: PYP EAW1 AUSTRALIAN WORKPLACE CULTURE - Southern LaserTech

WHS TASK 5 SCENARIO

COMPANY DETAILS

Southern LaserTech is a relatively new imaginary Australian company with offices in all States and Territories. Head office is the manufacturing hub whilst the other branches undertake R&D marketing and sales. There is a total of 170 staff. Your job is at head office.

Southern LaserTech commenced operations in 2012. The original owners and operators came from University research institutes then developed the first product in a technology incubator. The actual factory was commissioned in 2014.

The first product was a new laser that is now used for eye surgery and other related medical procedures. Since then the laser technology has been joined by nano-technology devices that can be placed inside the body to detect and destroy cancer cells.

There are two separate laboratories for the production of the nano machines and the lasers. Branch offices also have laboratories that specialise in the development of components or in experiments on new designs and clinical trials. Head office also has the most extensive set of experimental labs.

Southern LaserTech prides itself on having laboratories that meet world’s best practice standards for cleanliness and safety. Using lasers has significant risks. Nano-technology requires the use of totally clean facilities with high powered nuclear microscopes. Also in both cases the company runs clinical trials involving humans so processes and procedures for trials are stringent.

In 2017 there was a serious accident involving a laser. The company is now embarked on a full revision of its WHS systems and practices. Your job is to lead this work reporting to the senior management team.

Other relevant information:

·         Staff expect to be consulted

·         Record keeping for WHS is not adequate for the needs of the company

·         There is currently no continuous improvement process for WHS but there is one for cleanliness.

·         Management is committed to the process and has allocated $25000 to support the work and set a deadline of 2 months to make it happen
